Has anyone used ULead editing software and had problems with it? I am having continual problems with dropped frames and sound distortion rendering the final movie. I posted this a while back but got no reply

Yes, a while back when I was first enchanted by the simplicity and versatility of computer editing I purchased a firewire card for my PC and along with it came Uleads editing software. SHITE utter utter shite! I shifted that fucking program from faster PC to faster PC with bigger HD's and memory and it still fucked up all the time. I wanted to edit a tiny movie about 2 minutes long; couldn't do it! Soon after I realised where I'd been going wrong and sold my PC destroyed the program CD and bought myself an ibook SE. Cool! Not quite power book but still Cool!
My advice, sell it (your PC) and buy a MAC or get Premier.

hi,
I used an older version of MS for
doing analogue stuff a while back.
I then went on to the free version
with a dv card.
Since then I have some doubts about
the LSI MPEG encoder within it.
I used to think that Media Studio
Pro was better than Premiere. But
if have after effects et al, you
might want Premiere.
Now, I want to get a G4 and all the
mac software. But that looks like
about 5K worth of toys. :-(
Or even the new Sun Blade 100. :-)
Only 1K. Then there is tha package
that was used for Phantom Menace,
Terminator 2, etc, for only 3K.
Some day,
andy

Oh,
If you have problems you might want
to -
1) Defrag your drives.
2) Reinstall everything, and keep the
amount of software on your machine to
a minimum. I.e. don't install free
software from magazines. If possible
have a computer that ONLY does editing.
3) Get the newest drivers for your
software.
4) Check all 'tick boxes', e.g. are
you in the UK with 25 frames per sec,
but the software has defaulted to the
US 30 fps.
You've probably done all this already...
fun,
andy

So its not just me then.
I have already defragged etc..... but still no improvment.
Can anyone tell me if Premier works ok? I have version 5.5 but the capture card (the shtty one that came with ULead) does not work with it so before I spend more on a compatible card has anyone had problems with Premier?

are your dropped frames during capture or playback?
do you have the latest drivers for everything?
what version of directx?
I used to use Ulead MS on a 233MHz Win95 and UDMA33 with no problems, and a Matrox Rainbow Runner.

have you fixed your windows swap file?
M$ recommend something like 1.5 x RAM, fix the lower and upper limit to the same and then it won't be being dynamically resized as you capture.
Although I haven't done this on my Win2K machine and all is still well.

Miker, The dropped frames are during playback. Capture is perfect. The quality of the individual edited pieces is also perfect. It is just getting messed up with final rendering putting it all together. The sound gets all distorted, the audio runs away with the video and frames are dropped all over the place.

I had a similar problem using Premier. The answer was to either:
1 - Export the film in sections as AVI files, if you choose the rifght compression these should render perfectly. Then build a new project using these (you can delete all the old captured avi's). - its a long process, but worth it to remove the stuttering, also there is a slight loss of quality (there is in my project anyway)
2 - Make sure your captured files are on the same drive as your preview files, and it is defragged.
or do both. I dont know if Ulead is similar like this.
Hope that is some help.
